Tony Hagger

Managing Director: Writer, Director, Producer

Tony Hagger founded A-Z Films in 2006, following the success of Half Term (2006), which was Long Listed for the Live Action Short Oscars and won Rhode Island IFF, Bermuda, Cinequest, Atlantic FF, and ‘Best of Fests’, where he developed and created ‘Pineapple Dance Studios’ (2010).

Tony has won 11 International Awards and the Brabourne ‘Young Filmmaker of the Year Award’ at Bafta (2008/9). He was a Brabourne Awards ‘Big 5’ finalist 2008/9, pitching to Tim Bevan.

He studied directing under Mike Leigh at the prestigious London Film School, where his mentors were Mike and Jon Finn (Billy Elliot, Hunky Dory) and has previously been an AD (3rd and 1st) at The Bill, Family Affairs, and Burnside, in Script Development on The Lovely Bones (Wingnut/ Wild Child Films), Head of Commercials and Virals at Agile Films and Creative Executive Producer at ACE Films. He originated and created Pineapple Dance Studios, taking it to Sky1, spending many years working closely with Louie Spence, and was Executive Producer of Graham Greene’s A Little Place off the Edgware Road.

At A-Z, Tony has been writing and developing comedy series and feature films including several developed with Ingenious Media support.

He is a graduate (2010/11) of the MEDIA funded EAVE European Producer Training and is a voting member of BAFTA.
